Signs You Need A Tooth Extraction

Posted on

No one wants their teeth extracted, but sometimes it might be the only choice. While tooth extraction might seem a bit painful, it may be the only way to relieve toothaches. If you have a problem with your tooth and can't seem to find a way to solve it, you should consider getting a dental extraction

Surprisingly, it may be the best way to prevent major dental problems from occurring. But how can you tell that a tooth extraction procedure is imminent? Here are a couple of signs to watch out for.

Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth can give you a hard time if they don't have enough room to emerge. If your wisdom tooth fails to develop normally or doesn't get enough room to erupt, it can cause you pain. Impacted wisdom teeth can contribute to dental problems, such as gum disease and tooth decay.

As such, you need to have the impacted wisdom tooth extracted before it affects your oral health. If you have an impacted tooth, you'll experience an unpleasant taste, bad breath, and swollen or bleeding gums. So have it checked once you notice these symptoms.

Severe Tooth Pain

Severe tooth pain is yet another dental problem that requires you to have your teeth pulled. If you have had a toothache before, you understand how hard it is to sleep or eat. In most cases, severe tooth pain happens if you have an impaction, a dental cavity, or an infection.

Sometimes you might still need a tooth extraction if you're still experiencing pain after a root canal, filling, or crown procedure. If your pain is unbearable, you can have the tooth removed.

Crowding

While your mouth is designed to accommodate all of your teeth, sometimes it's just not possible for all of them to fit properly. If that happens, some of your teeth will end up displaced or crooked. There will be no alignment, making it difficult for you to chew food or even smile.

You might also develop gum disease and tooth decay. As such, dentists will have to create space in your mouth through tooth extractions. Once this procedure is done, an orthodontist can apply braces to correct the misalignment.

Severe Tooth Decay

Cavities are pretty common among Americans, and they're bound to attack your teeth as you age. Luckily, dentists can save teeth with cavities and minor decay. They'll recommend a filling procedure to restore the standard structure of your tooth. If that procedure doesn't work, the dentist will do a root canal. Unfortunately, if your tooth is badly decayed, there is no way it can be salvaged. That said, you need to have it pulled out before it starts causing you pain.
